Message from the Director
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) Sau Po Centre on Ageing (COA) traces its root to social gerontological research and education in late 1990s, when Hong Kong shifted its demographic into an aging society. Since then, CoA has been developed into a leading research agency under Faculty of Social Science HKU in Asia and worldwide.
With our passion to bring quality of life and quality of care to both older adults and their caregivers, we initiate research innovations not only on social determinants of well-being, but on empowerment-oriented, family-based, and culturally sensitive intervention models.
To empower change on a grand scale, CoA works together with more than twenty disciplines’ researchers, educators, community leaders, policy makers, and students to develop research breakthroughs and translate them into changes of individual behaviours, health and social care interventions, and policy practices.
By leading and participating in international collaborations and dialogue, CoA aims to foster collaborative leadership to make a difference to society and humanity.
We believe aging must be embraced from a lifespan perspective, we brings together dedicated educators and researchers, and older adults to educate new generations of aging literacy and produce powerful influences on their personal development. With these collaborations, we aim to re-design university teaching and learning to fight against out-dated stereotype towards aging.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Vivian W. Q. Lou
