About Continuing Nursing Education (CNE)
To enhance professionalism in nursing and to safeguard the quality of health cares in Hong Kong, the Nursing Council of Hong Kong considers it is necessary to pursue Mandatory CNE for all registered nurses and enrolled nurses in maintaining their competence in practice. All nurses must acquire the required number of CNE points before they can renew their practicing certificates. Prior to the implementation of a mandatory CNE system, the Nursing Council of Hong Kong has implemented CNE system on a voluntary basis since November 2006.
CNE is defined as any post-registration/post-enrolment educational skill or experience updating which is nursing specific or healthcare related with an aim to enrich the nurses’ contribution to quality health care and help them in their pursuit of professional goals (Manual For Continuing Nursing Education System, Page 1, 2011) .
